Thunder and Lightening but no rain all night. This has got to be the first overcast day I remember in months. Monsoon season must not be far away! I was getting pretty comfortable with the bus stops and got myself to the Santa Fe Railway area which has been revitalized with amazing Artisan and Farmer's Markets. The fruit and produce was totally awesome and I could only imagine how nice it would be to shop here regularly. I skipped breakfast back at the RV in the hope I could pick something up at the market. I just looked for the longest line and got in it. The specialty was "all natural, organic, free-range, humanely slaughtered and probably blessed by Archbishop Lamy" sausage breakfast burritos. That little puppy was wrapped in foil and still hot, I couldn't wait but oh no, the sweet lady at the register wanted to know if I wanted green chiles on it!!! I wasn't prepared for that question so I stammered a bit and then said a rather hesitant "yes"!?! Whoa! Now that's a Breakfast Burrito!!
I had a great morning strolling around the Railyard. A huge indoor converted warehouse had tons more to see. I definitely needed to walk off that meal so I hiked the 3/4 mile into city center. My next stop was the Georgia O'Keefe Art Museum. I was anxious to see her works and the special showing was entitled "Line, Color and Composition." Free admission for military was very nice. A very informative guide took us through 9 galleries which followed her evolution in Art to become "the Mother of American Modernism". Her career was prolific and at the time of her death at age 98 she was New Mexico's "first lady" of Art. Her work was introduced to the art community of New York City in 1916. The gallery owner and photographer, Alfred Stieglitz, promoted her work and offered for her to come to New York to paint. She left her Art teacher position in Canyon, Texas and moved North. Her and Alfred fell in love and married. Her museum in Santa Fe has many of the photo's taken from Stieglitz's portfolio which documented her career. Her work has been interpreted as "sensual" over the years; painting closeups of flowers which accented the sexual or reproductive parts and nude photographs of her taken by Alfred and later put on exhibit only helped to fuel this misconception. This was the time when Sigmond Freud was making famous his theories and she became furious with this misrepresentation. She changed her style and subjects and began to hate the confined spaces of New York. Alfred checked out, his estate settled and Georgia hightailed it out to new Mexico and never looked back.
It was a most enlightening exhibit and look into the career of an amazing artist. A real trip highlight and inspirational life story.
Last on my "to do" list was a walk down Canyon Road, home to well over 100 studios and galleries. A fun place to walk through and marvel at the talent!!!
Phew!! Self-indulgence can be so exhausting!!!!!!!!!!
I have worked up an appetite and recall an advert I saw in a magazine for the #1 Voted Pizza in Santa Fe, Back Street Pizza. Off to the bus and a 6 block hike and I finally made it to the establishment!!! I order my standard: cheese, pepperoni, mushrooms and you guessed it "green Chiles"!!!! I'm in heaven!!!

Uneventful return bus ride and once again it was Shona time. Packed the RV up and were ready for an early departure tomorrow. Santa Fe is a great "small" city and I will definitely go back again for another visit.
